Make a print

Printmaking has been around since ancient times. People have been carving into rocks and wood to create ways to replicate an image. A common use of this was the seal used in ancient Rome. In the early 15th century printmaking really took off with the wide use of woodcuts and in 1440 the printing press was invented and changed the world.

You can create prints right at home. The coolest thing about making a printing plate is that you can make many multiples from the same design.

Below you will find a video tutorial on how to print with markers and a foam printing plate. To create your printing plate you will first need to cut off the rounded edges of your plate so you are left with just the flat surface.

What you'll need:

Styrofoam plate, scissors, pencil, ballpoint pen, markers, kitchen sponge, water dish and paper.

Make a print from your homemade printing plate.

*If you are using thin copy paper, you do not need very much water.
