Create abstract art based on a song
Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter who was one of the first artists to start the abstract art movement. He had a condition called synesthesia, in which one sense, like hearing, concurrently triggers another sense, such as sight.
Watch the video about Kandinsky and learn more about how this informed his art making.
Then listen to one of your favorite songs and try to associate lines, shapes and colors to what you are hearing. Does the melody remind you of several tiny yellow dots? Does the baseline sound like large blue rectangles? How would thin swirly lines of purple sound?
There is not right or wrong to this kind of artwork. Abstract art is supposed to be nonrepresentational, so try not to include any words or images/symbols in your artwork.
What you'll need:
Paper, pencil, paint, or colored pencil/ markers
Listen to a favorite song and make an abstract piece of art based on the sounds that you hear.
